This course will examine African American History from 1619 when the first Africans are documented as entering colonial Virginia to the Civil War of 1860-65. We will explore the African historical cultural origins of the Africans that were captured and enslaved in the 13 colonies/United States. This examination will include the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, and the evolution of captured and free people of African descent during throughout the era of enslavement (1619-1865). Additionally, we will examine various forms of resistance by free and capture people of African descent during the covered period.
