In this course we will explore the functioning and regulation of the human body – the goal is to explore a variety of body systems while, getting you to think like a physiologist. Emphasis will be placed on unifying themes; for example, we will always come back to understanding the body as a whole and not as a collection of independent systems (‘integrative physiology’). The role of the environment in physiology (and homeostasis) will also form a central thread that we will continuously discuss during the course. Labs will include student-led experiments, primary literature discussions, poster presentations, and case studies. By participating fully in this course, you will learn more about how humans function, you will continue to improve your written and presentation skills, and you will enhance your ability (and your confidence in that ability) to “do biology”.
