We will focus on political, economic, social, cultural, and religious developments, and will pay special attention to the role that race, class, and gender had on the formation of America.

This course will survey U.S. women’s history from 1870 until the 1980s. The course will interpret the effect of major events in the second half of U.S. History on ideas of gender, sexuality, and the family. The course will focus on broad changes but also will assess how these events affected the lives of ordinary Americans, particularly American women.  We will pay special attention to the role that changing ideas of race, class, and gender had on American men and women.
